Our Programs

AfriSEED Foundation was built on the conviction that every vulnerable child and young person carries within them a seed of purpose, potential, and power. Our assignment is singular and sacred: maximise every seed.

The Root Initiative

Every year, thousands of capable Nigerian students are unable to pursue higher education, not because they lack ability, but because they cannot afford the examinations required for university admission.

Our programs exist to remove these barriers, ensuring that financial hardship never determines a student’s future.

The Root Initiative is AfriSEED Foundation’s flagship program, created to bridge the critical gap between secondary education and university entry.

The program supports academically promising students who have the potential to thrive in higher education but lack the financial resources to take the qualifying examinations required for admission into Nigerian universities.

Rather than simply paying examination fees, The Root Initiative provides a structured support system that accompanies students from the end of secondary school into university. Through financial assistance, mentorship, scholarship guidance, and ongoing encouragement, we help students build a strong foundation for long-term academic success.

Each annual cohort admits 15 students, allowing us to provide meaningful, personalized support throughout their journey.

What We Cover

Every student admitted into The Root Initiative receives targeted support designed to remove the most immediate barriers to university access.

WAEC (WASSCE)

We cover the registration fees for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), one of the essential qualifications required for university admission.

Post-UTME

Where required, we also cover institution-specific screening examinations conducted by individual universities.

Scholarship Guidance

Where opportunities exist, students receive guidance on identifying and applying for undergraduate scholarships and other educational funding opportunities that can support them throughout university.

JAMB / UTME

Students receive funding for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), administered by JAMB.

Structured Mentorship

Every student is paired with ongoing mentorship throughout their university journey, including:

  • Two structured group mentorship sessions every semester
  • One-on-one check-ins with a dedicated mentor every two months
  • Academic, personal, and career guidance

What We Do Not Currently Cover

While we strive to remove the barriers preventing students from entering university, our current scope does not yet include:

  • University tuition fees
  • Books and academic materials
  • Stationery
  • Living and upkeep expenses

As AfriSEED Foundation grows, we remain committed to expanding the support we can provide.
