Welcome to AfriSEED Foundation (“AfriSEED,” “we,” “our,” or “us”).
AfriSEED Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation incorporated under the Canada Not-for-Profit Corporations Act. We work to expand educational and developmental opportunities for vulnerable children and young people.
We are committed to respecting and protecting the privacy of individuals who interact with us, including website visitors, donors, supporters, volunteers, partners, program applicants and participants, parents and guardians, schools, referees, and individuals who communicate with AfriSEED.
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, store, protect, retain, and otherwise handle personal information through our website, online forms, donation and fundraising activities, volunteer and partnership processes, program applications and administration, events, email communications, outreach activities, and other interactions with AfriSEED.
By using our website or voluntarily providing personal information to us, you acknowledge that you have had an opportunity to review this Privacy Policy. Where consent is required by applicable law or AfriSEED policy, we will seek appropriate consent separately.

AfriSEED seeks to:

“Personal information” generally means information about an identifiable individual. The information we collect depends on how you interact with AfriSEED.
Contact and general information may include your full name, email address, telephone number, mailing address, city, province/state, country, organization or employer, and other contact details you voluntarily provide.
Donation and supporter information may include donor name, contact information, contribution amount and date, contribution preferences, transaction or reference information, payment status, and information reasonably necessary to administer or acknowledge a contribution.
Volunteer and partner information may include contact details, organization, professional background, skills, experience, interests, availability, references, screening information where appropriate, and information contained in communications with AfriSEED.
Program applicant and participant information may include, where reasonably necessary:
• name and contact information;
• age or date of birth;
• school and educational information;
• academic records, results, transcripts, or related documents;
• information relevant to assessing financial need or program eligibility;
• identification, nationality, or residency documentation where required for eligibility verification;
• recommendations and references;
• application essays, statements, or supporting documents;
• parent or guardian information;
• program participation and progress information;
• educational or developmental support needs; and
• photographs, videos, testimonials, stories, or recordings where appropriate consent has been obtained.
Some of this information may be sensitive. AfriSEED takes additional care when collecting and handling information concerning children, youth, vulnerable individuals, financial circumstances, identity documents, and educational records.
4. Information You Provide Voluntarily
You may provide personal information when you contact us, subscribe to communications, complete a form, make a donation, express donor interest, apply to volunteer, enquire about a partnership, apply for or participate in a program, register for an event, submit feedback or a recommendation, or otherwise communicate with our team.
Please do not provide personal information that is unnecessary for the purpose of your interaction with AfriSEED, particularly through general contact forms.
5. Automatically Collected Information
When you visit our website, certain technical information may be collected by our website, hosting provider, security tools, analytics services, or other technologies. Where consent is required, AfriSEED seeks meaningful consent appropriate to the sensitivity of the information and the circumstances. Consent may be express, electronic, written, verbal, or, where legally appropriate, implied.
You may withdraw consent, subject to legal, contractual, safeguarding, record-retention, program-administration, or other legitimate restrictions. Withdrawal may affect our ability to administer a program, process a transaction, provide requested support, or maintain a particular relationship with you.
9. Children and Youth
Protecting children and young people is a core AfriSEED commitment.
Where AfriSEED collects, processes, or stores personal information relating to a child or youth in connection with a program, we will obtain the written, informed consent required under our governing documents, safeguarding practices, and applicable law, including appropriate consent from the participant and/or their parent or legal guardian as applicable.
AfriSEED takes reasonable steps to limit collection to what is necessary, restrict access to authorized persons, avoid unnecessary disclosure, and protect educational records, identity information, financial-need information, photographs, videos, stories, and other identifying information.
Consent to apply for or participate in an AfriSEED program does not automatically constitute consent for a participant’s photograph, video, story, testimonial, or identifying information to be publicly used for fundraising, marketing, social media, or promotional purposes. Separate consent will be obtained where required.
Consent may be withdrawn in accordance with AfriSEED’s applicable consent process, subject to legal, safeguarding, record-retention, or other legitimate requirements.
10. Photographs, Videos, Stories, and Testimonials
AfriSEED may document programs and activities through photographs, videos, interviews, testimonials, stories, and other media.
With appropriate permission or consent where required, such material may be used for program documentation, impact reporting, donor communications, fundraising, educational purposes, social media, newsletters, annual reports, presentations, our website, and other organizational communications.
We take particular care with content involving children and vulnerable individuals and seek to avoid publishing unnecessary identifying details. Where appropriate, we may use first names only, general location information, non-identifying program information, or anonymized stories.
11. Donations and Payment Information
AfriSEED may use financial institutions, donation platforms, payment processors, or other service providers to administer contributions. Payment information may be transmitted directly to the relevant provider and handled under that provider’s privacy policy and terms.
AfriSEED may receive donor name, contact information, contribution amount and date, transaction or reference information, payment status, and other information reasonably necessary for donation administration and recordkeeping.
AfriSEED does not intentionally request or store passwords, full payment-card numbers, security codes, or other payment credentials through ordinary website contact forms.
AfriSEED does not sell, rent, or trade donor, applicant, beneficiary, volunteer, supporter, or other personal information or mailing lists.
12. Email Communications
When you submit an application, donor interest form, volunteer application, partnership enquiry, contact request, or similar communication, AfriSEED may contact you for purposes reasonably related to that interaction, including acknowledgements, administration, follow-up, program information, or payment instructions.
If you subscribe or otherwise consent to promotional communications, we may send organizational news, program updates, impact stories, event information, fundraising communications, volunteer opportunities, and related updates.
Where applicable, AfriSEED will follow legal requirements governing electronic communications, including applicable consent, identification, and unsubscribe requirements. You may unsubscribe from promotional communications using the method provided in the message or by contacting us. Administrative, transactional, safeguarding, or program-related communications may still be sent where reasonably necessary or otherwise permitted.
13. Disclosure of Personal Information
AfriSEED does not sell, rent, or trade personal information.
We may disclose personal information where reasonably necessary for identified purposes, including to authorized directors, officers, staff, volunteers, program personnel, professional advisers, or service providers who require access for legitimate AfriSEED activities and are subject to appropriate obligations.
Service providers may support website hosting, security, email delivery, cloud storage, form processing, donation or payment processing, analytics, event registration, communications, IT support, and other operational functions.
We may also disclose information where required or permitted by law, including to comply with lawful requests, protect legal rights, investigate fraud or abuse, address safeguarding concerns, protect an individual from harm, or cooperate with regulatory or law-enforcement authorities.
Where AfriSEED works with schools, institutions, partners, or intermediaries in delivering programs, information will be shared only where reasonably necessary and subject to appropriate consent, authorization, agreements, safeguards, or legal requirements.
14. International and Cross-Border Processing
AfriSEED is incorporated in Canada and may conduct activities in Nigeria and other countries. Some service providers may also operate in jurisdictions outside Canada.
Accordingly, personal information may be accessed, stored, or processed in Canada, Nigeria, the United States, or other jurisdictions depending on the services and programs involved. Information processed outside an individual’s home jurisdiction may be subject to the laws of the jurisdiction in which it is processed and may be accessible to governmental or law-enforcement authorities in accordance with applicable law.
AfriSEED seeks to use reasonable contractual, technical, organizational, and operational safeguards when personal information is handled by service providers or program partners, and will provide additional notice or safeguards where required by applicable law.
15. Data Security
AfriSEED takes reasonable administrative, technical, and physical measures to protect personal information against unauthorized access, loss, theft, misuse, alteration, disclosure, and destruction.
Measures may include access controls, password protection, multi-factor authentication where available and appropriate, secure hosting and storage, encryption where appropriate, confidentiality obligations, restricted access to sensitive information, security monitoring, staff and volunteer training, and appropriate information-management procedures.
No method of internet transmission or electronic storage is completely secure. While we take reasonable precautions, absolute security cannot be guaranteed.
16. Privacy and Security Incidents
AfriSEED maintains procedures for responding to privacy and security incidents involving personal information.
If we become aware of an incident, we will take reasonable steps to contain and assess it, mitigate potential harm, investigate its cause, document the response where appropriate, and implement corrective measures.
Where applicable law requires notification to affected individuals, privacy regulators, law-enforcement authorities, partners, or other parties, AfriSEED will take reasonable steps to provide the required notification.
17. Data Retention
AfriSEED retains personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected or as required or permitted by law.
Retention periods may differ for unsuccessful applications, successful participant records, consent forms, safeguarding records, donor and financial records, volunteer records, partnership records, communications, and technical or security information.
When personal information is no longer required, AfriSEED will take reasonable steps to securely delete, destroy, anonymize, or otherwise dispose of it, subject to applicable legal, safeguarding, financial, contractual, and organizational retention requirements.
18. Access and Correction
Subject to applicable law, you may request access to personal information AfriSEED holds about you and may request correction of information that is inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated.
We may need to verify your identity before responding. Certain information may be withheld where permitted or required by law, including where disclosure could reveal another person’s personal information, compromise safeguarding, or interfere with legal obligations.
We will respond within any timeframe required by applicable law.
19. Withdrawing Consent
Where AfriSEED relies on consent, you may request to withdraw it by contacting us.
Withdrawal does not necessarily require AfriSEED to delete information that we are legally required or permitted to retain, that is necessary for safeguarding or legitimate recordkeeping, that is required to complete an existing transaction or program obligation, or that is necessary to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
20. Third-Party Websites and Embedded Services
Our website may link to or incorporate third-party websites and services, including forms, payment services, videos, maps, social media content, analytics tools, educational resources, and partner websites.
These third parties operate independently and may collect or process information under their own privacy policies and terms. AfriSEED is not responsible for the privacy practices, security, content, or terms of independent third-party services. We encourage you to review their policies before providing personal information.
21. Website Security and Fraud Prevention
AfriSEED may collect and use technical information to protect our website, systems, programs, donors, applicants, and users from spam, malicious activity, unauthorized access, fraudulent transactions, automated attacks, abuse, and other security threats.
Security-related information may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to investigate, prevent, or respond to such activity.
